The highly anticipated new Tina Turner musical will open at London’s Aldwych Theatre in April 2018.
Directed by Phyllida Lloyd (Mamma Mia!), the musical charts Tina Turner’s life from humble beginnings in Nutbush, Tennessee, to her transformation into the 11 time Grammy Award winning global Queen of Rock ‘n’ Roll.
Tina Turner said: “I am so excited to be bringing my musical to the West End! London is a place that means so much to me and had such a big impact on my music and my life. Returning now to tell my full story, in the city I love, feels like an important chapter and is truly exciting.”
Featuring Tina Turner’s iconic songs, her inspiring, remarkable and moving story is written by Katori Hall with Frank Ketelaar and Kees Prins.
The world class creative team includes choreography by Anthony van Laast (Sister Act, Beauty and the Beast) set and costume designs are by Mark Thompson (One Man Two Guvnors, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory), musical supervision by Nicholas Skilbeck (Gypsy, Follies), lighting by Bruno Poet (Frankenstein), sound by Nevin Steinberg (Dear Evan Hansen, Hamilton) and orchestrations by Ethan Popp (Motown The Musical, Schoool of Rock).
Casting for Tina will be announced in due course.
Tina will begin performances on 21 March 2018 and is currently booking until 16 June 2018 at the Aldwych Theatre.
