The Wind In The Willows to close in the West End

The West End production of The Wind In The Willows announced it will now close on 2nd September.

The production was originally scheduled to play at the London Palladium until 9 September.

Based on Kenneth Grahame’s treasured novel, the new adaptation by Downton Abbey creator Julian Fellowes and Olivier Award-winning composer and lyricist duo George Stiles and Anthony Drewe opened to mixed reviews in June.

Most critics felt that despite a brilliant cast, and sparkling set and costumes, Julian Fellows’ adaptation failed to surpass the National Theatre’s much lauded production, or add anything new to the story.

It seems the poor reviews may have hastened the end of this old toad.

For those wondering what to do with the kids this August the musical comedy is a sparkling and entertaining show – just not in the same league as Matilda. Ticket offers are available.
