Carrie Hope Fletcher has been cast in title role of Andrew Lloyd Webber’s new production of Cinderella in London.
Hope Fletcher’s numerous theatre credits include Heathers (Theatre Royal Haymarket), The Addams Family (UK Tour), Chitty Chitty Bang Bang (UK Tour) and Mary Poppins (Prince Edward Theatre). She is currently playing Fantine in Les Miserables at the newly named Sondheim Theatre.
The actress workshopped the production for Lloyd Webber last year so her ongoing involvement in the production is not entirely unexpected.
Andrew Lloyd Webber said: “I’m absolutely thrilled that Carrie will be our Cinderella at the Gillian Lynne Theatre this Autumn. She has totally wowed my fellow writers and creative team and was a big success at the sing through of the show late last year.
The new production, which is based on an idea by Emerald Fennell, the Emmy-nominated lead script writer for season 2 of the hit BBC series Killing Eve, is described as a complete reinvention of the classic fairytale. The show has original score by Lloyd Webber with lyrics by acclaimed City of Angels lyricist David Zipppel and direction by Laurence Connor.
Further casting is to be announced in due course.
Cinderella will begin performances on 28 August 2020 at the Gillian Lynne Theatre, London.
Cinderella tickets will go on general sale on 20 March 2020.
