Edward Fox is to star in the West End premiere of Sand in the Sandwiches at the Theatre Royal Haymarket.
The triple BAFTA winner returns to the West End in the acclaimed one-man play exploring the life and work of the former Poet Laureate – John Betjeman.
Celebrating a man famous not only for light verse and laughter, but for his passions, his sense of purpose and his unforgettable poetry, Sand in the Sandwiches presents a hugely entertaining insight into the world of this much-loved irreverent writer.
Edward Fox said “It is lovely to be returning to one of the great theatres of the world and to the role of John Betjeman, even now at the age of 80. All of us involved are working to magnify the voice of one of the greatest minds in England. Betjeman once said that ‘poetry is life’, and I agree. You can’t live without it.”
Directed by Gareth Armstrong, the production is produced by Jonathan Church, Oliver Mackwood Productions and Oxford Playhouse.

The production nips into the Theatre Royal Haymarket courtesy of a break in the run of Edward Albee’s The Goat, or Who Is Sylvia?, which has suspended performances due to a pre-contractual , prior engagement of Damian Lewis for the week only.
Sand in the Sandwiches will run from 30 May 2017 until 3 June 2017 at the Theatre Royal Haymarket.
