Mel Brooks’ Young Frankenstein will receive its West End premiere in Autumn 2017.
Producers confirmed today Mel Brooks’ musical comedy will open in the West End, prior to a pre West End season at the Newcastle Theatre Royal in August 2017.
Based on the Oscar-nominated smash hit 1974 film and the wickedly inspired re-imagining of the Mary Shelley classic tale, Young Frankenstein is co-written by Brooks and Thomas Meehan, and will be directed by Broadway director and choreographer Susan Stroman.
Brooks was overheard discussing the production at a screening of Blazing Saddles in LA last month in which he said it would be paired back from the original Broadway show, which was considered “over-blown” and if all went well in London he would transfer it back to Broadway.
Full creative team, casting and venue will be announced at a later date.
