Gary Barlow and Tim Firth’s musical makeover of Calendar Girls, the smash-hit British movie that became a best-selling West End comedy, is to receive its West End premiere at the Phoenix Theatre from February 2017.
The production features original music by Take That’s Gary Barlow and lyrics by Tim Firth, who wrote the original screenplay and West End play.
The Girls follows the real life story of a North Yorkshire Women’s Institute group who decide to fundraise for a local hospital by posing nude for a calendar and inadvertently become media sensations.
Barlow and Firth workshopped the production in a village hall in North Yorkshire in March last year before premiering the musical at the Leeds Grand Theatre starring Harriet Thorpe, Claire Machin, Joanna Riding and Claire Moore.
