Sheridan Smith takes break from Funny Girl

Sheridan Smith is to take a 2-4 week break from Funny Girl

Following the recent indisposition of Sheridan Smith, it has been that she will be taking a short leave of absence from Funny Girl to recover from stress and exhaustion.

Smith’s role, for which she has received widespread acclaim will be played by Natasha J Barnes who played the role for 5 performances at the Menier Chocolate Factory and again this week at the Savoy Theatre. Like Smith, Barnes has received plaudits from audiences and critics alike with Mark Shenton from The Stage stating she was “like a quirky, young Imelda Staunton, burning with quiet intensity, heartbreakingly good acting and singing voice that reminded me of the great, late Judy Garland.”

The Producers have said that they are “thrilled to support the wonderful Natasha J Barnes. She has received high praise from audiences on the occasions she has appeared and we are certain that audiences will continue to love this amazing show. The entire team at Funny Girl is thinking of Sheridan during this very difficult and stressful time. She is getting the rest and support she needs and we look forward to her return to the show in due course.”

The cast includes Darius Campbell  as Nick Arnstein, Valda Aviks as Mrs O’Malley, and Marilyn Cutts  as Mrs Brice.

Funny Girl is running until 8 October 2016 at the Savoy Theatre.
