Sheridan Smith to miss second West End Funny Girl performance

Sheridan Smith will miss a second consecutive performance in the West End production of Funny Girl at the Savoy Theatre.

In a statement, the producers said: “Due to the indisposition of Sheridan Smith the role of Fanny Brice will be played by Natasha J Barnes at tonight’s performance of Funny Girl.”

Smith did not appear in the performance on 9 May 2016 following her attendance at the BAFTA Awards held at the weekend, where she was nominated for The C Word.

Just before the show was due to start Smith tweeted that the press had let her down, along with the “cast and everyone who spent money to see me”.

“I apologise profusely. Sorry I’m not strong enough,” she said.

Smith previously missed performances of Funny Girl at the Menier Chocolate Factory run when it was announced her father had been diagnosed with cancer.

Funny Girl runs until 8 October 2016 at the Savoy Theatre.
