Meera Syal joins cast of Kenneth Branagh’s Romeo and Juliet

Meera Syal has joined the cast of the Kenneth Branagh Theatre Company’s production or Romeo and Juliet.

Syal will play the Nurse in the production alongside the previously announced Richard Madden and Lily James in the title roles, and Derek Jacobi, who will play Mercutio.

Syal said: “I’m so looking forward to joining such an exciting and prestigious company, and to be performing Shakespeare with them in this, his 400th anniversary year.”

Also featuring in the cast are Jack Colgrave Hirst, Tom Hanson, Matthew Hawksley, Ansu Kabia, Zoë Rainey, Michael Rouse, and Kathryn Wilder who return to the Garrick following recent performances in The Winter’s Tale and Harlequinade. Marisa Berenson, Tom Hanson, Taylor James, Racheal Ofori, Nikki Patel, Chris Porter and Sam Valentine complete the cast.

Romeo and Juliet runs from 12 May 2016 until 13 August 2016 at the Garrick Theatre.
