Ivanov, the production due to mark Chris Pine’s London theatre debut, has stopped selling tickets for its planned Bridge Theatre run next summer. The production was originally meant to happen in 2026, but was postponed due to scheduling difficulties with Pine.

The Bridge Theatre’s highly anticipated production of Ivanov, starring Chris Pine, has stopped selling tickets for its planned run next summer. The Hollywood actor was due to make his London stage debut in the Anton Chekhov revival. The news follows the announcement of Pride transferring to the Bridge Theatre. As reported to The Stage, Trafalgar Entertainment, which acquired the venue earlier this year, are looking into other options for presenting the show.

Ivanov was originally set to open at the Bridge Theatre in July this year and run until 19 September, but was pushed back by a year in February, due to scheduling issues with Pine. The show, a reimagining of Chekhov’s play by writer-director Simon Stone, has now stopped selling tickets for those dates amid the ongoing discussions.

Where could Ivanov go next?

No new venue has been confirmed, and it’s worth stressing that anything beyond an official statement is speculation at this stage. But the situation raises an obvious question for Chekhov and Chris Pine fans alike: if not the Bridge, then where?

Interestingly, another West End show was originally being planned for the Bridge Theatre, but switched venues following the sale. The Standard of Living was originally developed for the Bridge Theatre, directed by Nicholas Hytner, who served as Artistic Director of the National Theatre for 12 years and co-founded the new venue in 2017. Following the Bridge’s recent sale to Trafalgar Entertainment, the play will instead premiere in the West End at the Theatre Royal Haymarket.

Could this be the case for Ivanov?

The venue’s first show under new ownership is Pride, which transfers next month after a sell-out run at the National Theatre. That timing could be why ‘alternative options’ are being discussed rather than rescheduling. Given Trafalgar Entertainment’s own extensive portfolio of London venues, one plausible route would be a move to one of its other West End theatres, though this remains unconfirmed.

It’s also possible the production could resurface at a different point in 2027 or beyond.

For now, ticket-holders are advised to wait to be contacted directly by the venue regarding their existing bookings, and further details are expected as discussions progress.
