Eurovision star Sam Ryder performed a song from Jesus Christ Superstar on Britain’s Got Talent this week (16 May 2026).

Sam is about to make his West End debut in Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice’s Jesus Christ Superstar at the London Palladium.

It was announced this week that, due to exceptional demand, the show is also extending its London run, and will move from the Palladium to the Theatre Royal Drury Lane in October, for an autumn and Christmas run.

A single of ‘Gethsemane’ has also been released on all streaming platforms.

Jesus Christ Superstar is written by Tim Rice (lyrics) and Andrew Lloyd Webber (music), and the newly released single of ‘Gethsemane’ was produced by music legend Fraser T. Smith (Adele, Raye, Dave) alongside Andrew Lloyd Webber and Sam Ryder. Recorded live to tape at British Grove Studios earlier this year, it sees Sam Ryder taking on one of musical theatre’s most iconic and challenging songs, showcasing his skill, range and vocal power.

JCS at Theatre Royal Drury Lane

News of Jesus Christ Superstar moving to the Theatre Royal Drury Lane came out this week. It is rare for a show to announce a London extension in another theatre even before the show has opened. However, box office sales have been exceptional for Jesus Christ Superstar, leading producers Michael Harrison and Andrew Lloyd Webber to open up a new venue and booking period for the show.

Directed by Donmar Warehouse artistic director Tim Sheader (Crazy For You), Jesus Christ Superstar reunites the award-winning creative team behind the original Regent’s Park Open Air Theatre production, including choreographer Drew McOnie (The Artist) and Olivier Award-winning designer Tom Scutt (Cabaret, Into the Woods).

West End Shows on Britain’s Got Talent

Jesus Christ Superstar is the latest West End show to perform in the semi-finals of Britain’s Got Talent – broadcast live from the Eventim Apollo Theatre in Hammersmith.

Last week saw hit musical Avenue Q perform on the show. The live semi-final performances started two weeks ago with Alexandra Burke performing a number from her major new musical I’m Every Woman – The Chaka Khan Musical.
