Casting has been announced for the world premiere production of Springwood at Hampstead Theatre in London this summer.
Led by multi-award winners Robert Lindsay and Jemma Redgrave, the production is written and directed by Olivier and Tony Award-winner Richard Nelson (Farewell to the Theatre).
The play will run for a strictly limited London season from 19 June to 25 July 2026.

The Springwood cast
The cast of Springwood is led by award winners Robert Lindsay (Anything Goes, My Family) as President Roosevelt and Jemma Redgrave (Octopolis, Silent Witness) as his wife, Eleanor Roosevelt.
They are joined by Andrew Havill (This House) as King George VI and Rebecca Night (The Importance of Being Earnest) as Elizabeth, The Queen.
The full company includes Harry Anton as Tommy, Teresa Banham as Missy, Oliver Cotton as Cameron, Bryony Miller as Mary, Rachel Pickup as Daisy and Eileen Nicholas as Mrs Roosevelt.
A meeting of Kings and Presidents
Written by Richard Nelson (Farewell to the Theatre, Goodnight Children Everywhere), his new play is set in 1939 at a country estate, and captures a pivotal moment in history: the first-ever visit of a reigning British monarch to the United States.
As the shadow of World War II looms, the “special relationship” between two superpowers rests on a seemingly trivial event – a public picnic. With the fate of nations hanging in the balance, King George VI must convince Roosevelt to offer his support, all while navigating the cultural minefield of a menu featuring hot dogs and beer.
Within the thin walls of the estate, Nelson’s play explores the secrets, fears, and indiscretions of these global leaders and their wives in a richly observed clash of cultures.
The production was originally to be directed by Stanley Tucci, but he had to pull out due to a scheduling conflict. Richard Nelson is now directing the production.
