The underworld is coming to South Kensington. This April, the London cast of Hadestown will perform among the Greek statues of the V&A, bringing the Tony-winning musical out of its West End home and into the museum’s historic galleries.

It was announced today that the production will stage this special live set on Saturday 25 April at 11am. Set against the epic backdrop of the Medieval and Renaissance Gallery, the performance marks a unique collaboration between the critically acclaimed show and one of London’s most iconic cultural institutions.

Surrounded by sculptural depictions of the very myths that inspired the score, the company will perform a selection of fan-favourite songs. The event serves as a flagship moment for the museum, highlighting the intersection of ancient storytelling and modern performance.

The Echoes of 2026

The performance forms a centrepiece of the V&A’s Performance Festival 2026, which this year is inspired by the theme of ‘echos.’ The festival, running from 24 April to 03 May, explores reverberation, repetition, and myth-making through storytelling and the memory-forming power of sound.

The producers of Hadestown said: “We are thrilled to be partnering with the V&A for its ‘echos’ themed Performance Festival, and to bring Hadestown into such an inspiring and historic space. At its heart, Hadestown is a story that has echoed through centuries, and this performance is a wonderful opportunity to share that journey with audiences in a completely unique way.”

From the South Bank to South Kensington

While Hadestown is currently a West End staple, its relationship with London began long before its current residency at the Lyric Theatre. Created by Anaïs Mitchell and directed by Rachel Chavkin, the production famously made its UK debut at the National Theatre in 2018—a crucial pre-Broadway run that helped propel the show toward its eventual Tony and Grammy-winning success in New York.

Now in its third year back in London, seeing the company perform among the museum’s sculptural depictions of Greek gods provides a new perspective on a show that remains a West End staple. Moving the music into a public gallery brings the show back to its folk-roots, offering an intimate, historic setting for these ancient myths.

The Current Company

A joyful combination of folk, jazz, and blues, Hadestown intertwines the ancient Greek mythic love stories of Orpheus and Eurydice, and King Hades and his wife Persephone.

The current West End cast of Hadestown features Rachel Adedeji as Persephone, Bethany Antonia as Eurydice, Marley Fenton as Orpheus, Alastair Parker as Hades, and Clive Rowe as Hermes.

The company is completed by Melanie Bright, Spike Maxwell and Lauran Rae as the Fates; Femi Akinfolarin, Michelle Andrews, Gabriela Benedetti, Ollie Bingham and Sebastian Lim-Seet as the Workers, with Juan Jackson, Oisín Nolan-Power, Lindo Shinda, Jasmine Triadi and Milly Willows as Swings.
