Simon Stephens returns to the Young Vic with an original new play, following the great success with the English language version of Anton Chekhov’s The Cherry Orchard, Henrik Ibsen’s A Doll’s House and his adaptation of I Am The Wind.
Two of the most respected theatre makers in Europe, A Toneelgroep Amsterdam and Mostra Internacional de Teatro de São Paulo, present a poignant journey through grief and hope. Directed by Ivo van Hove (A View from The Bridge), Song from Far Away receives its UK premiere at the Young Vic theatre.
Songs From Far Away plays a strictly limited run from 2 September 2015 until 19 September 2015 at the Young Vic theatre.
STORY
Returning home to Amsterdam after the death of his brother, a young man (played by Eelco Smits) attempts to reconnect with his sibling through a series of letters.
CREATIVE
Song from Far Away is directed by Ivo van Hove with design by Jan Versweyveld (A View from The Bridge) and new music composed by American singer-songwriter Mark Eitzel.
CAST
Eelco Smits makes his Young Vic debut. His theatre credits include Mary Stuart, Phaedra, Ghosts, Antonioni Project and Angels in America (Toneelgroep Amsterdam), Leonce and Lena, Portia Coughlan and the role of the young Marcel Proust in the theatre cycle, In Search of Lost Time (Ro Theater, Rotterdam). Film & TV credits include Majesty: The dream of Beatrix and the Dutch TV series Bloedverwanten [Relatives].
