New Adventures announce the cast for Matthew Bourne’s award winning dance thriller The Car Man playing at Sadler’s Wells from 14 Jul til 9 Aug.
The first staging of this production in eight years will see a new generation of New Adventures’ stars debuting in the iconic leading roles. Jonathan Ollivier and Chris Trenfield will play the title role Luca, The Car Man, Ashley Shaw and Zizi Strallen will play the role of Lana, and Katy Lowenhoff and Kate Lyons will play Lana’s older sister Rita. The demanding role of Angelo will be shared by rising New Adventures star Liam Mower, and the ever popular Dominic North. The original car man, Alan Vincent returns to the company to play Lana’s violent husband, Dino. Completing the stellar cast, as the inhabitants of the fateful small town of harmony usa are Cordelia Braithwaite, Tom Clark, Danny Collins, Pia Driver, Freya Field, Glenn Graham, Tim Hodges, Katrina Lyndon, Andrew Monaghan, Leon Moran, Danny Reubens, Katie Webb, Layton Williams and Dan Wright.
The Car Man is directed and choreographed by Matthew Bourne, with music by Terry Davies & Rodion Shchedrin’s Carmen Suite (after Bizet’s Carmen); designs by Lez Brotherston; lighting by Chris Davey and sound by Paul Groothius.
Loosely based on Bizet’s popular opera it features Schedrin’s powerful Carmen Suite and new arrangements of Bizet’s score by Terry Davies.
