The ultimate summer reggae party returns. Following a sold-out, critically acclaimed debut, the sensational stage adaptation of the cult classic film returns to Stratford East for a strictly limited season.
Written by Pulitzer Prize and Tony Award winner Suzan-Lori Parks (Topdog/Underdog), this production is directed by Olivier Award winner Matthew Xia (Tambo & Bones).
Don’t miss this loud, proud, and unmissable tribute to the film that first introduced reggae to the global stage. The Harder They Come plays at Stratford East from 16 May to 4 July 2026.
What is The Harder They Come about?
In the heat of 1970s Kingston, Ivan arrives with nothing but a dream and a voice. Determined to become a superstar, he soon discovers the music industry is as treacherous as the streets.
When a corrupt mogul tries to own his talent, Ivan chooses defiance over submission. As his records climb the charts, he simultaneously climbs the “most wanted” list—becoming both a folk hero and a revolutionary in a world where the game is rigged against him. This electrifying story asks: What is the personal cost of fighting against systemic injustice?
The soundtrack of a revolution
Get ready for a high-energy score that blends the legendary hits of Jimmy Cliff with vibrant new original songs. The production features timeless anthems including: “You Can Get It If You Really Want”, “Many Rivers to Cross”, “The Harder They Come”, and many more.
