Hit movie franchise The Hunger Games is to get a theatrical makeover as a new theatre stage show is to be created in London.
The Hunger Games franchise is about to get even bigger.
Producers of the movies, Lionsgate, have announced that they are creating a live stage show of The Hunger Games in partnership with Imagine Nation and Triangular Entertainment.
A new, purpose-built theatre in Wembley Park, next to Wembley Stadium and Arena, will house the massive new show, which will be launched in Summer 2016.
The first two installments of The Hunger Games starring Jennifer Lawrence have proved box-office gold and made more than $1.5 billion worldwide. The latest movie – The Hunger Games: Mockingjay: Part 1 – will be released later this month on 21 November.
Based on the sci-fi novels by Suzanne Collins, The Hunger Games are about a reluctant hero called Katniss Everdeen and set in the dystopian, post-apocalyptic nation of Panem in North America in the future.
Producers lined up by Lionsgate to create the show include Broadway producer Robin de Levita at Dutch company Imagine Nation, veteran UK promoter Harvey Goldsmith, Triangular Entertainment exec Warren Adams, WalkRunFly Productions exec Brandon Victor Dixon, Gary Ricci of R&R Media and Robert Harris.
Robin De Levita has created a number of large-scale event theatre shows in the Netherlands including an authorized play based on The Diary of Anne Frank that featured rotating sets.
The producers have said that the show will use innovative and immersive staging techniques to recreate the vast world of Panem.
Chief Marketing Officer Tim Palen at Lionsgate said: “Robin de Levita and the entire production team are the perfect partners for extending ‘The Hunger Games’ franchise into a live theatrical experience. Their creative genius, combined with world-class production values and state-of-the-art technology will provide a uniquely immersive experience for fans around the world.”
If successful it is believed that the show will be extended to other territories, including Europe and the USA.

About Imagine Nation
Imagine Nation is a global production company focusing on Live Entertainment, Film and Television, with an ambition to create new intellectual properties through the use of innovative technology. In 2013 the company released the movie APP, the first film with a “second screen” application. The company was founded in 2012 by Kees Abrahams, media entrepreneur, former Who Wants To Be A Millionaire? owner and former President of International Production at Sony Pictures Television, and producer Robin de Levita.

As a producer of Soldier of Orange (the longest running musical in Dutch history), De Levita created a rotating auditorium.
