Sweetmeats Tickets London

Love never gets old. Sweetmeats is a tender, funny, and life-affirming new play about rediscovering joy, connection, and desire — starring two South Asian elders in a story that will melt even the hardest of hearts.

Sweetmeats stars Shobu Kapoor (Polite Society) as Hema, and Rehan Sheikh (Silence) as Liaquat.

This Bush Theatre and Tara Theatre co-production is written by Karim Khan (Brown Boys Swim, Soho Theatre) and directed by Natasha Kathi-Chandra, Tara Theatre’s Artistic Director.

Sweetmeats is an intimate love story between two South Asian elders, exploring identity, ageing, and second chances with humour and heart.

“Their souls are on fire because after all these lonely days, they finally found their own.”

Hema hasn’t indulged in sweet treats for years — she’s been determined to take control of her health through a diabetes course. But everything changes when Liaquat bursts into her life: charming, rule-breaking, and full of appetite for the world.

As Liaquat coaxes Hema to savour life again, she helps him manage his own health — and soon, an unexpected romance begins to blossom. Together, they must navigate the sweetness and ache of love rediscovered in later life.
