The hit Broadway production A Beautiful Noise: The Neil Diamond Musical will make its Australian premiere at Melbourne’s Princess Theatre in August 2026, it has been announced. The exclusive Melbourne season is presented by producers Ken Davenport, Bob Gaudio, Paul Dainty and TEG Dainty, in partnership with the Victorian Government.

Created in collaboration with Neil Diamond, A Beautiful Noise traces the remarkable journey of the Grammy-winning singer-songwriter from his Brooklyn beginnings to international stardom. Framed through a series of therapy sessions, the show sees Diamond confronting his past as his psychiatrist reads from a well-worn copy of The Complete Lyrics of Neil Diamond. His story unfolds through a rich catalogue of enduring hits, including Sweet Caroline, America, and Forever in Blue Jeans.

Written by acclaimed screenwriter Anthony McCarten (Bohemian Rhapsody), the show is directed by Tony Award winner Michael Mayer (Spring Awakening).

McCarten has described the piece as a “majestic musical collage” in which the songs come to life as memory and introspection unfold.

The creative team includes Olivier Award-winning choreographer Steven Hoggett (Once), David Rockwell (scenic design), Emilio Sosa (costume design), Kevin Adams (lighting design), and Jessica Paz (sound design), with music supervision by Sonny Paladino and orchestrations by Bob Gaudio, Paladino, and Brian Usifer.

Neil Diamond’s relationship with Australian audiences stretches back decades. His “Thank You Australia” tour in 1976 marked the beginning of a long-standing connection, with further national tours in 1992, 1996, 1999, 2005, 2011, and 2015. His 1972 live album Hot August Night remains one of the longest-charting albums in Australian history.

The show’s Australian debut adds another major event to Melbourne’s cultural calendar. “The good times never seemed so good for our calendar of major events,” said Minister for Tourism, Sport and Major Events, Steve Dimopoulos. “This musical is yet another reason Melbourne is the cultural and major events capital of the nation.”

“Australia has always been home to some of his most passionate and loyal fans,” said producer Ken Davenport. “I couldn’t imagine a more perfect way to honour his legacy.”

Diamond added, “Some of my most thrilling nights have been while sharing my music with audiences around the world. It’s an incredible honour to see A Beautiful Noise heading to Melbourne. I hope Australian audiences enjoy the show as much as I have.”

Dates and casting to be announced.
