Hamlet stars Hiran Abeysekera, Francesca Mills, Alistair Petrie, Tessa Wong, Geoffrey Streatfeild, Ayesha Dharker, Tom Glenister
The National Theatre in London has announced full casting for its forthcoming production of Hamlet starring Hiran Abeysekera.
Directed by the National’s new Deputy Artistic Director Robert Hastie (Standing at the Sky’s Edge), Hamlet is playing at the National Theatre’s Lyttelton theatre from 25 September to 22 November 2025.
Promising to be sharp, stylish and darkly funny, Hamlet is played by Olivier Award-winner Hiran Abeysekera (Life of Pi).
Also already announced are Francesca Mills (2024 Ian Charleson Award-winner and 2025 Ian Charleson Award nominee) as Ophelia, with Alistair Petrie (Sex Education) as Claudius, Ayesha Dharker (Bombay Dreams) as Gertrude, Geoffrey Streatfeild (A Mirror) as Polonius, Hari MacKinnon (The Father and the Assassin) as Rosencrantz, Phil Cheadle (Antigone On Strike) as Marcellus, Siobhan Redmond (Doctor Who) as First Player, and Tom Glenister (Dear England) as Laertes.
Announced today are Tessa Wong (Smothered) as Horatio, with Joe Bolland ((The Trial of Christine Keeler) as Guildenstern, Ryan Ellsworth (The Motive and the Cue) as Ghost, Mary Higgins (HOTTER) as Osric, Liz Jadav (The Tempest) as Nurse, Kiren Kebaili-Dwyer (The Wheel of Time) as Fortinbras, Sophia Papadopoulos (Henry VI: Rebellion) as Cornelius, Seb Slade (War of the Worlds) as Francisco, and Noel White (This England) as Bernardo.
Robert Hastie is joined in the creative team by set and costume designer Ben Stones, lighting designer Jessica Hung Han Yun, sound designer Alexandra Faye Braithwaite, composer Richard Taylor, movement director Ira Mandela Siobhan, fight director Kate Waters, casting directors Alastair Coomer CDG and Martin Poile CDG and associate director Georgie Staight.
Hamlet will also be broadcast to cinemas through National Theatre Live from 22 January 2026.
Hamlet is playing at the National Theatre’s Lyttelton theatre from 25 September to 22 November 2025.
