A joyful reckoning with faith, hearing loss, and the meaning of life – Ohio arrives at the Young Vic this autumn in a powerful new autobiographical musical from real-life couple Abigail and Shaun Bengson.

Running from 30 September to 24 October 2025, this deeply personal gig-theatre piece weaves evocative Indie-folk music with stirring storytelling. A soulful and celebratory show, Ohio confronts life’s unanswerable questions head-on — through joy, grief, loss, and love.

Written and performed by Obie Award-winning duo The Bengsons, and directed by Caitlin Sullivan, Ohio tells a powerful true story of leaving behind old beliefs and embracing the unknown. As Shaun faces the loss of his hearing, the couple turn to music, love, and each other — transforming personal struggle into a life-affirming celebration of hope, humour and humanity.

Presented in the Young Vic’s Maria Theatre, Ohio features creative captioning integrated into the performance, with relaxed and BSL-interpreted performances available.

About the Show

Ohio premiered at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe 2025 to widespread acclaim. Now, it comes to London with Francesca Moody Productions and piece by piece productions, in association with the Young Vic.

The show examines the intersection of faith, disability, identity and art. Through soulful songs and poetic reflections, Abigail and Shaun invite audiences into their lives — and ask, what happens when we die? What if we choose joy, even when everything’s uncertain?

What happens when we die?

An intimate and rousing new musical experience by real-life couple Abigail and Shaun Bengson, known for their evocative Indie-folk music and deeply personal storytelling.

When Shaun turned his back on the church, he found a new home in music. Confronted now with acute degenerative hearing loss, he’s making the choice to live joyfully in the face of life’s many unanswerable questions.
