Andrew Lloyd Webber’s Love Never Dies, the long-awaited sequel to The Phantom of the Opera, will be screened in over 450 cinemas across the UK and Ireland from 21 September 2025.

This high-definition release captures the acclaimed 2012 Australian production, starring Ben Lewis as the Phantom and Anna O’Byrne as Christine Daaé.

Filmed on stage in Melbourne, the cinematic version showcases the full scale of the production, with a 36-strong cast, over 300 costumes, and a 21-piece orchestra. Presented by CinemaLive, the film offers audiences a chance to experience Webber’s gothic sequel with state-of-the-art sound and picture.

The story continues a decade after the Phantom’s disappearance from the Paris Opera House, as he resurfaces on Coney Island and once again crosses paths with Christine, now a world-renowned soprano and mother.

Originally premiering in London at the Adelphi Theatre in 2010, Love Never Dies featured Ramin Karimloo as the Phantom, Celia Graham as Christine, and David Thaxton as Raoul. Following a mixed initial reception, the show has undergone critical reappraisal in recent years.

A new Love Never Dies concert version starring Norm Lewis and Celinde Schoenmaker was staged at Theatre Royal Drury Lane in August 2023, drawing enthusiastic audiences. Lewis, who previously played the Phantom on Broadway, said: “My love for Andrew’s Love Never Dies meant this was the quickest yes, the moment I was asked… There’s nothing greater than performing this at the famous Theatre Royal Drury Lane.”

The Telegraph has described Love Never Dies as “one of the greatest of all Andrew Lloyd Webber musicals,” with standout numbers including ’Til I Hear You Sing, The Beauty Underneath, and the title track Love Never Dies.

The cinema release arrives at a significant moment for Lloyd Webber. His landmark musical The Phantom of the Opera is set to celebrate its 40th anniversary in London in October 2026, where it continues its record-breaking run at His Majesty’s Theatre. His wider body of work is also experiencing renewed momentum: Evita, starring Rachel Zegler, has emerged as one of the standout hits of the summer, while Sunset Boulevard recently completed a critically acclaimed, sold-out run on Broadway under Jamie Lloyd’s direction. Meanwhile, speculation is growing that the Watermill Theatre’s current production of Jesus Christ Superstar—which Lloyd Webber personally attended this week—could have legs!

Adding to the growing Phantom universe, a new immersive production titled Masquerade is set to open in New York on 31 July 2025. Directed by Tony Award-winner Diane Paulus, the experience promises to reimagine the world of the Phantom with audience interactivity, opulent design, and a rotating cast featuring Broadway alumni. It is not currently scheduled for a London transfer.

As Lloyd Webber’s theatrical legacy continues to evolve across stages and screens, the return of Love Never Dies offers both longtime fans and newcomers a chance to revisit the Phantom’s story from a new angle — and on the biggest screens.

Also hitting the big screen this Halloween is Bat Out of Hell: The Musical, captured live with its acclaimed West End cast. This explosive rock opera—featuring Jim Steinman and Meat Loaf’s greatest hits—roars into cinemas from 30 October, bringing the dystopian world of Obsidian and its rebellious love story to life with thunderous music, stunning visuals, and a full-throttle theatrical experience.
