Gwenda’s Garage, a new British musical by Nicky Hallett, with music by musician and composer Val Regan, is coming to London this autumn.

Gwenda’s Garage will run at Southwark Playhouse Borough in London from 30 October to 29 November 2025.

Ahead of London, the production will premiere at Sheffield Theatres’ Tanya Moiseiwitsch Playhouse from 15 to 25 October 2025.

The show stars Nancy Brabin-Platt as Bev, Eva Scott as Carol, Sia Kiwa as Terry, Lucy Mackay as Dipstick, Georgina Coram as Feona, with other roles played by Liz Kitchen.

The band features musical director Val Regan, associate musical director Liz Kitchen, Jude Holland on bass guitar, Richard Body on keyboards, Liz Kitchen on drums, and Becky Eden Green on sax and clarinet.

Celebrating working-class women, lesbians, and the power of collective action, Gwenda’s Garage is based on a true story. The real Gwenda’s Garage was founded in 1985 in Sheffield, South Yorkshire by three women mechanics: Ros Wollen (aka Roz), Annette Williams, and Ros Wall. They defied the odds in a male-dominated field, by establishing their own repair workshop in what was then a run-down area of the city. Named after Gwenda Stewart, a pioneering, record-breaking racing driver, the garage became a hub for women’s education and activism alongside the day-to-day of car repairs.

Set in 1980s Sheffield in Thatcher’s Britain, the show promises to be an exuberant call to arms filled with humour, heart, and original songs.

Gwenda’s Garage is directed by Jelena Budimir, who is also the dramaturg, alongside costume designer Becky Graham, set designer Sarah Booth, sound designer Joe Dines, lead producer Jas Nisic, and associate producer Gabby Vautier for imPOSSIBLE Producing.

The musical is produced by Out of the Archive Theatre in association with Sheffield Theatres.

Gwenda’s Garage is playing at Southwark Playhouse Borough from 30 October to 29 November 2025.
