Final casting has been announced for the workshop performances of new musical Mona Loser, by musicals writing duo Kit Buchan and Jim Barne (Two Strangers (Carry a Cake Across New York).
The new musical is set to have a series of four workshop performances this month at Southwark Playhouse Borough in London, from 16 to 19 July 2025.
Mona Loser is a new contemporary musical set in the music industry, about viral fame, fakery and identity, drawing inspiration from Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein and the modern monsters created both on and offline.
Casting already announced includes Melanie-Joyce Bermudez (Love’s Labour’s Lost, RSC; King Lear, Wyndham’s Theatre) as Mona.
Melanie-Joyce will be joined by Ahmed Hamad (Standing At The Sky’s Edge, National Theatre), Chad Saint Louis (After the Act, Royal Court), Annabel Marlow (Muriel’s Wedding, Leicester Curve), Rumi Sutton (Miss Saigon, Sheffield Crucible), and Stevie Webb (Shucked, Regent’s Park Open Air Theatre).
Directed by Tim Jackson, the workshops will offer audiences a first glimpse at this new work-in-development show.
Further creatives joining the team include Katy Richardson (Musical Director), Harriet White (Lighting Design), Rob Atkinson (Sound Design) and Olivia Laydon for Jill Green Casting (Casting Director).

Produced by Tim Johanson Productions with the Birmingham Hippodrome, the show is supported by Birmingham Hippodrome’s New Musical Theatre Department, a department dedicated to championing original British musical theatre.
