New show Military Wives The Musical, from BAFTA-winner Debbie Isitt (Nativity!, I Should Be So Lucky) has announced casting ahead of its premiere at York Theatre Royal.
Announced back in February, the world premiere production of Military Wives The Musical will play York Theatre Royal on 10 September, until 27 September 2025. There are no current details on whether the show will then tour.
The musical will star Kayla Carter (Sister Act) as Faith, Emma Crossley (I Should Be So Lucky) as Bex, Jessica Daley (The Wizard of Oz) as Jenny, Ashleigh Gray (Only Fools and Horses The Musical) as Terri, Adrian Hansel (We Will Rock You) as Luke, Sydney Isitt-Ager (Nativity! The Musical) as Sarah, Joe Kelly (Two Strangers Carry A Cake Across New York) as Adam, Bobbie Little (Standing at the Sky’s Edge) as Olive/Paula, Billy Roberts (Mrs Doubtfire The Musical) as Dale/Simon/Andy, Caroline Sheen (Mary Poppins) as Susannah, Rachael Wooding (Pretty Woman) as Krissy, and Stewart Wright (The Upstart Crow) as Dave the Welfare Officer.
The musical is a joyous celebration of female friendship, courage and ‘unsung’ heroes, featuring the inspirational true story of the Military Wives choir as they change the world one song at a time.
Military Wives The Musical is based on the hit 2019 movie Military Wives, directed by Peter Cattaneo and written by Rosanne Flynn and Rachel Tunnard, and starring Kristin Scott Thomas, Sharon Horgan, Greg Wise, and Jason Flemyng.
With their husbands and partners away at war, the women left behind are isolated, bored and desperate to find a focus to take their minds off feelings of impending doom.
Enter Olive who arrives on the ‘patch’ to help them form a choir and learn to sing. But Olive gets a lot more than she bargained for with this diverse group of women – who through the power of song find themselves facing their fears and making unexpected friendships along the way.
Military Wives The Musical boasts a score that mixes pop, rock and power ballads.
Joining writer/director Debbie Isitt in the creative team are George Dyer (Arranger, Orchestrator and Musical Supervisor), Katie Lias (Designer), Rory Beaton (Lighting Designer), Richard Brooker (Sound Designer), Rebecca Louis (Movement Director) and Marc Frankum (Casting Director).

It’s an uplifting and powerful story about friendship, courage, and finding your voice, and I can’t wait for audiences in York to be the first to experience it on stage.”

The show is produced in association with Everyman Theatre Cheltenham and Buxton Opera House.
Military Wives The Musical will play York Theatre Royal from 10 to 27 September 2025.
