Fresh from scooping three trophies at the 78th Tony Awards — including Best Revival of a Musical and Best Actress for Nicole Scherzinger, Jamie Lloyd’s blistering, London‑born staging of Andrew Lloyd Webber’s Sunset Boulevard could be heading to Hollywood.
The show’s star told E! News she is “manifesting” a movie musical adaptation of the noir classic, and is “still waiting for someone to do Sunset Boulevard the movie musical with me”.
Scherzinger’s comments come as Jamie Lloyd prepares to launch his next Lloyd Webber revival, Evita, which begins performances at the London Palladium tomorrow, Saturday 14 June, with an official opening set for 27 June.
Nicole Scherzinger talks to E! News about a movie version of Sunset Boulevard (From 1.32 minutes)
‘Ready for her close‑up’
A film version of Sunset Boulevard has hovered in development for years. Glenn Close, who won a Tony for the role in 1995, was attached to a Paramount Pictures version that ultimately stalled when the studio passed on the project. Scherzinger’s public enthusiasm suggests fresh momentum behind bringing Norma Desmond’s comeback to the screen.
Final weeks on Broadway
Lloyd’s expressionistic production transferred from London’s Savoy Theatre to New York last autumn and has repeatedly extended due to demand. It will now play its final performance on 20 July 2025 at the St James Theatre, giving fans just over five weeks to catch Scherzinger’s award‑winning turn before the curtain falls.
“I’d love to do it all. I’d love to do some interesting films, some really bold, daring roles. I’d love to do a movie musical, obviously. Still waiting for someone to do Sunset Boulevard the movie musical with me.
There has been some talk of a film adaptation — that is my dream, so I’m manifesting that right now.”
Sunset Boulevard is playing at the St James Theatre in New York until 20 July 2025.
Jamie Lloyd’s new production of Evita starring Rachel Zegler starts performances at the London Palladium on 14 June.
