Heavy metal meets high art in this bold new production celebrating Birmingham’s legendary sons, Black Sabbath.
Epic new dance spectacular Black Sabbath – The Ballet from Birmingham Royal Ballet is coming to Sadler’s Wells Theatre in London, featuring the iconic music of Black Sabbath.
Get ready for a theatrical spectacle like no other, as the iconic sound of Black Sabbath takes centre stage in an electrifying new production from Birmingham Royal Ballet. Fusing the raw power of heavy metal with the elegance of classical dance, Black Sabbath – The Ballet is the first show of its kind – a full-length ballet scored to the band’s music and legacy.
Black Sabbath’s music – including hits like Paranoid, War Pigs, Iron Man and Black Sabbath – will be heard in original recordings and new orchestral arrangements performed live by the Royal Ballet Sinfonia. Combined with original metal-inspired compositions, this ballet delivers a high-octane experience that pushes the boundaries of both genres.
Curated by Birmingham Royal Ballet’s director Carlos Acosta, the show brings together an international creative team including Swedish choreographer Pontus Lidberg, Tony Award-winner composer Christopher Austin (noted for orchestrating The White Stripes for Wayne McGregor’s Chroma), and Jerry Springer – The Opera writer Richard Thomas. Together, they create a groundbreaking new work spanning three acts – a ‘metal symphony’ of music, movement and theatrical innovation.
And yes, Black Sabbath themselves have been actively involved in shaping this once-in-a-lifetime collaboration.
Black Sabbath – The Ballet is playing Sadler’s Wells Theatre in London from 22 to 25 October 2025.
