The Barbican Centre in London has announced its Theatre & Dance programme for autumn and winter 2025.

Two major UK premieres kick off the season in the Barbican Theatre, with French-Vietnamese theatre and filmmaker Caroline Guiela Nguyen making her UK debut with Lacrima (25 to 27 September), a multi-lingual drama about the hidden personal cost behind the luxury fashion industry.

This is followed by Polish director Łukasz Twarkowski’s exploration of art and legacy in Rothko (2 to 5 October).

In The Pit theatre at the Barbican, Dance Umbrella will introduce artists from Australia and Spain in Change Tempo (8 to 9 October), a double bill challenging expectations of dance, and Gesualdo Passione (16 October) in the Hall in collaboration with the Barbican’s Music department.

Award-winning company Kiss Witness will premiere the darkly comedic Prayers for a Hungry Ghost (29 October to 1 November), created through the Barbican’s Open Lab talent development programme. Also, CN Lester returns with a sixth edition of their Transpose Pit Party, with Subverse (12 to 15 November) celebrating non-conforming work and featuring some of the UK’s most exciting trans artists, curated by ILĀ and directed by Jamie Hale.

Female-led Catalan company Engruna Teatre will make their London debut with Univers (3 to 13 December), a magical sensory experience for 0-2 year olds.

Toni Racklin, Barbican Head of Theatre & Dance, said: “We are so pleased to announce a striking Theatre & Dance line-up for autumn-winter 2025, presenting work that embodies the breadth and ambition of the Barbican’s boundary-pushing international programme. This season invites audiences to experience the power of live performance to connect, provoke and inspire. We continue to champion cross-disciplinary experimentation to bring together a programme of extraordinary artists from around the world who challenge convention and shed light on our lives in all their complexity.”

Coming up at the Barbican Theatre this summer is hit musical Fiddler On The Roof from 24 May to 9 July 2025, direct from a sold-out run at the Regent’s Park Open Air Theatre; and the UK premiere of Good Night, Oscar, the Tony Award-winning drama starring Sean Hayes, from 31 July to 21 September 2025.
