The Outer Critics Circle in New York has announced nominations for its 2025 Outer Critics Circle Awards, honouring the 2024 to 2025 Broadway and Off-Broadway season.
The Outer Critics Circle is the official organisation of writers on New York theatre for out-of-town, national, and digital news publications, and is celebrating its 75th anniversary this year.
New Broadway musical Death Becomes Her leads the nominations with twelve, followed by new musical Maybe Happy Ending with nine nominations. Also, London imports Stranger Things: The First Shadow with seven nominations, and The Hills of California with six, and both nominated for Outstanding New Broadway Play.
Operation Mincemeat, which has proved a huge success in London and opened on Broadway last month, is nominated for six awards including Outstanding New Broadway Musical.
Jamie Lloyd’s revival of the Andrew Lloyd Webber musical Sunset Boulevard, which originally opened in the West End, scored four nods including Outstanding Revival of a Musical, and a nomination for Nicole Scherzinger. Another Lloyd Webber revival, Cats: The Jellicle Ball, was also included in the best musical revival category, and also got four nominations.
Other British and Irish talent up for awards includes Laura Donnelly, Louis McCartney, Jak Malone, Andrew Scott, David Cumming, Felix Hagan, Natasha Hodgson, Zoë Roberts, Stephen Daldry, Justin Martin, Sam Mendes, Rob Howell, and Paul Arditti.
The nominations announcement was made by Oh, Mary! stars Cole Escola and Conrad Ricamora, live at the Museum of Broadway in New York.
The winners will be announced on 12 May 2025, followed by an awards ceremony on 22 May 2025.
