Casting has been revealed for the world premiere of Radiant Boy at Southwark Playhouse Borough.
Written by Nancy Netherwood, Radiant Boy is playing from 21 May to 14 June 2025.
Already announced are Renée Lamb (Six The Musical, West End) as Steph/The Voice, and Stuart Thompson (Three Sisters, Shakespeare’s Globe) as Russell.
They will be joined by Ben Allen (Macbeth, UK tour) as Father Miller, and Wendy Nottingham (The Last of the Boys, Southwark Playhouse) as Maud.
Radiant Boy is directed by Júlia Levai, with set and costume design by Tomás Palmer, lighting design by Lucia Sanchez Roldan, and sound design by Patch Middleton.
Winner of the RSC’s 37 plays competition, Radiant Boy is a new play about faith, shame and queerness and finding connection through art.
Set in North-East England in 1983 as a snowstorm rages outside, trainee singer Russell and his mother Maud await the arrival of a young priest who believes Russell is a victim of possession.
Director Júlia Levai said: “I’m really looking forward to working with this wonderful cast on Radiant Boy. The play explores important themes like faith, identity, and connection, and I’m excited to see how the actors bring their unique energy to the characters. It’s a great opportunity to tell a story that feels both timely and personal, and I’m eager to share it with audiences.”
Radiant Boy is playing at Southwark Playhouse Borough from 21 May until 14 June 2025.
