One of the Bridge Theatre’s biggest hits, Nicholas Hytner’s production returns this summer, following an acclaimed run in 2019. Its immersive format – which allows 400 people to stand close to the action with 670 seats wrapped around – enabled over 100,000 people to see the production six years ago. The theatre is turned into a magical, enchanted forest for Shakespeare’s classic comedy, in a dream world of flying fairies, contagious fogs and moonlight revels.
Directed by Nicholas Hytner (Giant, The History Boys), the creative team includes award-winning production designer Bunny Christie (Evening Standard Theatre Award), costume designer Christina Cunningham, lighting designer Bruno Poet, sound designer Paul Arditti, composer Grant Olding, and movement director Arlene Phillips. James Cousins serves as associate director and associate movement director.
A Midsummer Night’s Dream will run from 31 May to 23 August 2025.
The Bridge Theatre boasts an exciting season of productions. Currently on stage is Nicholas Hytner’s acclaimed take on Richard II, starring Jonathan Bailey, running until 10 May 2025. Following this, A Midsummer Night’s Dream takes the spotlight before a highly anticipated new staging of Stephen Sondheim’s beloved musical Into the Woods, directed by Jordan Fein, which runs from 2 December 2025 to 8 April 2026.
Hytner’s other current projects include directing John Lithgow in Giant, which transfers to the Harold Pinter Theatre in the West End from April 2025.
