A new production of Stephen Sondheim and James Lapine’s Into the Woods will open at the Bridge Theatre in London for a strictly limited 20-week run. Directed by Jordan Fein and designed by Tom Scutt, the show will play from 2 December 2025 to 18 April 2026.
Blending wit, dark humour, and poignancy, Into the Woods follows a Baker and his Wife, Cinderella, Jack, Little Red Riding Hood, and other familiar characters as they set out to fulfil their deepest wishes—only to discover that every wish comes at a cost. Featuring one of Sondheim’s most dazzling scores, the musical explores ambition, morality, and the complexities of happily ever after.
Nicholas Hytner, co-founder of the Bridge Theatre, said: “Into the Woods is one of the great achievements of the American stage. Jordan Fein’s Fiddler on the Roof at the Open Air Theatre last year was a triumph—beautifully staged and overwhelmingly moving—and Tom Scutt has established himself across the world as a designer of rare talent and imagination.”
Jordan Fein’s credits include Fiddler on the Roof at Regent’s Park Open Air Theatre, while Tom Scutt recently won a Tony Award for his scenic design of Cabaret at the Kit Kat Club in London and on Broadway.

First staged on Broadway in 1987, Into the Woods won multiple Tony Awards, including Best Score for Sondheim and Best Book for Lapine. In London, it has had major productions by Richard Jones (Phoenix Theatre, 1990), John Crowley (Donmar Warehouse, 1998), and Timothy Sheader (Regent’s Park Open Air Theatre, 2010). This will be its first London staging since 2016.
The last significant UK revival was Terry Gilliam’s 2022 production at Theatre Royal Bath.
