London-based theatre star Joaquin Pedro Valdes is set to join the cast of Stephen Sondheim’s Into the Woods, in a new production being staged in the Philippines.
Joaquin Pedro Valdes will play Cinderella’s Prince / The Wolf in the production, alongside Tony and Olivier Award-winner Lea Salonga as The Witch, comedian Eugene Domingo as Jack’s mother, and Broadway star Arielle Jacobs as Cinderella.
Into the Woods will run this August 2025, from 7 to 24 August, at the Samsung Performing Arts Theater in Makati, Manila.
Joaquin Pedro Valdes is originally from Makati in the Philippines, and has performed extensively in London, including his current role in The Lightning Thief: The Percy Jackson Musical at The Other Palace, until 2 March 2025.

His previous UK roles include The Baker’s Wife and Pacific Overtures (Menier Chocolate Factory), Death Note the Musical (West End), Miss Saigon (UK tour), The King and I (international tour), Heathers The Musical (West End), and Then, Now & Next (Southwark Playhouse).
Pedro Valdes said in a statement: “Performing in the Philippines again and on this incredible scale, alongside this fantastic cast, is truly special. Being back home and on stage is a full-circle moment. Philippine theater is where it all started for me, and to return to it after all these years is inexplicably profound. While my life in London has deeply shaped me into the actor I am today, it has always been a dream to bring all that experience back home if only to say, ‘thank you’.”
Into the Woods boasts music and lyrics by Stephen Sondheim, and a book by James Lapine.
The Lightning Thief: The Percy Jackson Musical is now playing at The Other Palace theatre in London, booking to 31 August 2025.
