ONCE: David Hunter and Jill Winternitz cast in leading roles

Once The Musical at the Phoenix Theatre will get new lead players from May 2014

David Hunter and Jill Winternitz will join the cast of Once from 12 May 2014 as Guy and Girl.

David Hunter, who replaces Arthur Darvill in the show, has been understudying the role of Guy since July. He trained at Liverpool Institute for Performing Arts, with stage credits that include One Man Two Guvnors at the National, UK tour and the Adelphi, Seussical at the Arts Theatre and The Who’s Tommy at the Prince Edward Theatre. David also reached the semi-finals of Superstar on ITV.

Jill Winternitz trained at UCLA, the Moscow Art Theatre School and RADA. She made her West End debut as Baby in Dirty Dancing at the Piccadilly Theatre and on tour.

Once won two awards at last month’s Olivier Awards including Outstanding Achievement in Music, and scooped 8 Tony Awards including Best Musical in 2012.

Based on the Oscar-winning film, the show is directed by John Tiffany  with a book by Enda Walsh and  music and lyrics by Glen Hansard and Markéta Irglov.

The full cast from 12 May also includes Fiona Bruce (Baruska), Jamie Cameron (Emcee) Mark Carlisle (Da), Matthew Ganley (Svec), Mathew Hamper (Andre), Daniel Healy (Eamon), Loren O’Dair (Reza), Miria Parvin (Ex-girlfriend), Tim Prottey-Jones (Billy) and Jez Unwin (Bank Manager). Alternating the role of Girl’s young daughter Ivanka will be Juliana Cotton, Demi Lee, Gemma Loader and Ruby Payne.
