Shakespeare’s Globe in London has announced casting for its forthcoming revival of Hansel and Gretel.
Hansel and Gretel will play The Globe theatre from 29 November 2024 to 5 January 2025.
The classic Brothers Grimm’s story features brand new songs by Magnus Mehta and Patrick Pearson, and is written by Poet Laureate Simon Armitage and directed by Nick Bagnall.
The cast includes Ned Costello (Leaves of Glass, Park Theatre) as Hansel, Yasemin Özdemir (School for Scandal, The Merry Wives Of Windsor, RSC) as Gretel, Harry Hepple (Hello Dolly!, West End) as Dad / Swanny, Beverly Rudd (Massive, Trollied, Oliver!) as Mum / Witch, Jenni Maitland (The 47th, Old Vic) as Narrator,
The company also includes Mason Clark-Whale as Ensemble, Lizzie Grace as Ensemble / Cover, Aaron McCallum Hepple as Ensemble / Cover, Jamie-Rose Monk as Ensemble, and Marc Zayat as Ensemble.
Director Nick Bagnall said in a statement: “I am thrilled to be returning to this brilliant re-telling of the Grimm’s fairy tale alongside Simon Armitage with renewed vigour and a whole heap of new mischief. It’s a delight to be working with this cracking bunch. With fresh faces comes fresh choices and a brand new world of possibilities.”
New to the creative team are Magnus Mehta (Co-Composer / Orchestrator), Patrick Pearson (Co-Composer / Songwriter), Chi-San Howard (Movement Director), and Liz Flint (Voice). They’re joining last year’s team of Nick Bagnall (Director), Simon Armitage (Writer), and Cory Hippolyte (Associate Director). This year’s production is co-designed by Rae Smith and William Fricker, and casting is by Becky Paris, Casting Director at Shakespeare’s Globe.
Hansel and Gretel is running at Shakespeare’s Globe from 29 November 2024 to 5 January 2025.
