The Donmar Warehouse has added an additional matinee performance of Natasha, Pierre and The Great Comet of 1812 to its sold-out run, scheduled for Monday, 23 December 2024, at 2:30pm.
Tickets for the extra performance will go on sale today, Friday 1 November at midday.
Inspired by a scandalous slice of Tolstoy’s War and Peace, multi-award-winning Dave Malloy’s dazzling, genre-defying musical is a ravishing party from start to finish.
Nominated for 12 Tony Awards on Broadway, this brand new Donmar production is directed by Artistic Director Tim Sheader in its UK premiere. His international Olivier Award-winning musical productions include Jesus Christ Superstar and Into the Woods.
Tim Sheader and the cast began rehearsals for the show last week.
The cast includes Declan Bennett (Jesus Christ Superstar) as Pierre, Chumisa Dornford-May (The Phantom of the Opera) as Countess Natasha Rostova, Jamie Muscato (Moulin Rouge! The Musical) as Anatole, Cedric Neal (Guys & Dolls) as Balaga, Daniel Krikler as Fedya Dolokhov, Eugene McCoy as Prince Bolkonsky/Andrey, Annette McLaughlin as Marya Dimitriyevna, Maimuna Memon as Sonya Rostova, J Chloe Saracco as Mary and Cat Simmons as Helene Kuragina Bezukhova, with Andrew Berlin, Kimberley Blake, Ali Goldsmith, Chihiro Kawasaki, Nitai Levi and Annie Majin.
What’s the storyline of the show?
First things first: this is a show where you’ll want to pay close attention—and if you can, read the program before the curtain goes up! The musical is based on Part 8 of Leo Tolstoy’s novel where the young, naive Countess Natasha Rostova heads to Moscow to meet her future in-laws.
Arriving in the glittering opulent world of Moscow High Society, the impulsive and romantic Natasha awaits the return of her fiancé from the front lines. But when she falls under the spell of an intoxicating aristocrat, it is up to the unlikely hero, Pierre, to pick up the pieces of her shattered reputation.
Natasha, Pierre and The Great Comet of 1812 will run at the Donmar Warehouse in London from 7 December 2024 to 8 February 2025.
