Classic comedy love story Hobson’s Choice comes to Regent’s Park Open Air Theatre.
Starring Emmerdale’s Karl Davis, this brand new production of Harold Brighouse’s much-loved classic Hobson’s Choice is directed by Nadia Fall (The Doctor’s Dilemma -National Theatre).
The 1954 film version directed by David Lean introduced this story to an international audience, and the play remains a delightful comedy drama offering a vivid picture of working class life.
THE STORY
Hobson’s Choice is the tale of a Salford cobbler with three unruly daughters. From the cobbles of Lancashire, bombastic boot-shop owner Henry Horatio Hobson takes umbrage at his daughter’s intention to marry long-suffering bootmaker Willie Mossop.
Through her determination, the couple weds, set up a rival establishment and orchestrate Hobson’s fall from grace. But it is Willie who triumphs in this unlikely love story, as newfound fortitude deals a resolution that is ‘Hobson’s choice’.
CAST
