Further casting has been announced for the new production of Chekhov’s play The Seagull, coming to the Barbican Theatre in February.
The Seagull will run at the Barbican Theatre in London for a limited six week season from 26 February to 5 April 2025.
Already announced are Hollywood star Cate Blanchett, returning to the London stage as Arkadina, and British star Tom Burke (Strike, Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga) as Trigorin.
They will be joined by Olivier Award nominee Priyanga Burford (An Enemy of the People) as Polina, Golden Globe winner Emma Corrin (The Crown, Orlando) as Nina, Zachary Hart (The Constituent, Slow Horses) as Medvedenko, Paul Higgins (Romeo and Juliet, The Doctor) as Shamrayev, Tanya Reynolds (Sex Education, A Mirror) as Masha, Kodi Smit-McPhee (The Power of the Dog) as Konstantin, and BAFTA winner Jason Watkins (W1A, The Lost Honour of Christopher Jefferies) as Sorin.
Further cast and creatives are to be announced soon.
Thomas Ostermeier (An Enemy of the People) will direct, in a new adaptation of Chekhov’s classic drama by Ostermeier and Duncan Macmillan (People, Places and Things).
The Seagull in London will reunite Blanchett and Burke following their roles in Steven Soderbergh’s forthcoming film Black Bag.
The creative team for the show also includes Set design by Magda Willi, Costume design by Marg Horwell, Sound design by Tom Gibbons, and casting by Jim Carnahan CSA & Liz Fraser CSA.
The Seagull is produced by Wessex Grove, who also produced An Enemy of the People, Macbeth starring Ralph Fiennes, and Sheridan Smith in Opening Night; and Gavin Kalin Productions (Sunset Boulevard, Vanya, A Little Life).
The Seagull is playing at the Barbican Theatre from 26 February to 5 April 2025.
