Casting has been announced for the first major London revival of Jez Butterworth’s drama The River.

The River will play at Greenwich Theatre in London from 1 to 27 October 2024.

Directed by Greenwich Theatre artistic director James Haddrell, The River will star Paul McGann (Doctor Who, Jonathan Creek, Luther) as The Man, Amanda Ryan (Shameless, Casualty) as The Woman, and Kerri McLean (Bodkin, Poldark) as The Other Woman.

This is the first major London revival of The River since the play premiered at the Royal Court Theatre in 2012, written by Jez Butterworth.

Butterworth is the Olivier and Tony Award-winning writer of Jerusalem, The Ferryman, Mojo, and recent West End drama The Hills of California, which is transferring to Broadway next week.

The creative team for The River will also include set and costume design by Emily Bestow, lighting design by Henry Slater, sound design by Julian Starr, and composer Michaela Murphy.

The River is running at Greenwich Theatre from 1 to 27 October 2024.

Paul McGann – The Man

Paul is best known for Withnail & I and appearing as the eighth doctor in the Doctor Who universe. Kerri McLean – The Other Woman

Kerri is best known for Netflix series Bodkin and for playing Catherine Despard in Poldark.
