Ray Cooney farce revived by Menier Chocolate Factory
Could this be the start of a Ray Cooney renaissance? [caption id="" align="alignright" width="247"] Donald Sinden and Michael Williams in Two Into One at the Shaftesbury Theatre in 1984 - on the front cover of Plays magazine[/caption] Ray Cooney's comedy Two Into One will get a revival this spring at the Menier Chocolate Factory. Running from 8 March to 26 April 2014, Cooney's 1984 farce about politicians getting up to no good follows the success of The Duck House, a comedy about the MP's expenses scandal currently running at the Vaudeville Theatre starring Ben Miller. Ray Cooney is one of the UK's most prolific and best known comedy playwrights, with work including classic farces such as Run for Your Wife and It Runs in the Family. His plays have fallen out of favour in the West End in recent years although a movie of his play Run for your Wife was released last year starring Danny Dyer, Sarah Harding, Denise Van Outen and Neil Morrissey. Two Into One concerns the attempts of an MP to arrange a sexual tryst in a hotel between the Prime Minister and a secretary. Unfortunately, the MP delegates the act to a charming, bumbling aide! Ray Cooney formed the Theatre of Comedy Company at the Shaftesbury Theatre in 1983, bringing together over thirty leading actors, writers and directors to take over the lease of the theatre. The original 1984 production of Two into One at the Shaftesbury starred Donald Sinden and Michael Williams. Booking for Two Into One at the Menier Chocolate Factory opens shortly.
