Groundhog Day The Musical: Tim Minchin writing new show based on the hit movie

Matilda The Musical writer and director working on musical adaptation of Groundhog Day.

Baz in the Daily Mail reports today that award-winning comedian and songwriter Tim Minchin is working on a new show following the success of Matilda The Musical.

Alongside the director of Matilda, Matthew Warchus, he is working on a musical adaptation of hit 1993 movie Groundhog Day, which starred Bill Murray as a weatherman forced to relive the same day over and over again until he finds life more positive.

Minchin and Warchus have been workingon the new show with the movie’s original screenwriter Danny Rubin.

Matthew Warchus directed the stage adaptation of another classic movie, Ghost, which is currently on a UK tour.

Early workshops for Groundhog Day The Musical will be timed for the Spring. There is currently no casting, venue or launch date information.
