Richard Eyre’s revival of The Pajama Game at the Chichester Festival Theatre is to transfer to the Shaftesbury Theatre in the West End.

Opening in May 2014, Richard Eyre directs a revival of classic feelgood musical The Pajama Game at the Shaftesbury Theatre.
A hit this summer in Chichester, the show starred Joanna Riding and Hadley Fraser, alongside a supporting cast that included Jenna Boyd, Peter Polycarpou, Dan Burton, Ricardo Coke-Thomas, Amy Griffiths, Richard Jones, Claire Machin, Eugene McCoy, Jo Morris, Sophia Nomvete, Landi Oshinowo, Alexis Owen Hobbs, Carl Sanderson, John Stacey, Colin Stinton and Lauren Varnham.
Casting hasn’t been confirmed for the show but Riding and Fraser are expected to sign on.
The Richard Adler and Jerry Ross musical is set within the Sleep-Tite Pajama Factory, as handsome new Superintendent Sid Sorokin falls head-over-heels for firebrand Union rep Babe Williams.
With a medley of well known songs including Hey There (You With The Stars In Your Eyes), Hernando’s Hideaway and Steam Heat, it’s unashamedly upbeat romance and comedy and should go down well with West End audiences.
Richard Eyre is currently directing Andrew Lloyd Webber’s new musical Stephen Ward at the Aldwych Theatre, with a cast that includes Joanna Riding as Valerie Hobson in the show. Choreographer on the show is Stephen Mear, who also choreographed The Pajama Game.
It is a busy time for Richard Eyre, with this Almeida production of Ghosts also transferring into the West End starring Lesley Manville.
Currently playing at the Shaftesbury Theatre is Tim Rice’s new musical From Here to Eternity, which closes at the Shaftesbury Theatre in April 2014.
