Sophie Thompson, Charles Edwards & Suzette Llewellyn to star in The Ballad of Hattie and James

West End stars Sophie Thompson and Charles Edwards will star in the world premiere of The Ballad of Hattie and James at the Kiln Theatre in London.

Thompson and Edwards will play Hattie and James, with Suzette Llewellyn as Bo, Mrs Arbuthnot, Rosamund, Louise, Eve and Madame Schultz.

Sophie Thompson, known to many for her screen roles in EastEnders, Coronation Streeet, Sex Education and Gosford Park, is an Olivier Award winning actress with a string of acclaimed theatre credits including: Present Laughter (Old Vic); Guys and Dolls (Chichester Festival Theatre, Savoy Theatre); Into the Woods (Donmar Warehouse); Company (Donmar Warehous); She Stoops to Conquer (National Theatre) and Clybourne Park (Royal Court, Wyndham’s Theatre).

Charles Edwards recently appeared on stage in James Graham’s Best Of Enemies at the Young Vic. His many theatre credits include The 39 Steps (West End, New York); Absolute Hell, Waste, NT50, Strange Interlude, This House, Twelfth Night, All My Sons, and The Duchess Of Malfi all at the National Theatre. On screen he is known for Celebrimbor in The Lord Of The Rings: The Rings Of Power, The Crown and Downton Abbey.

Suzette Llewellyn’s theatre credits include Foxes (59E59); The Fellowship (Hampstead Theatre); Electric Rosary (Royal Exchange Manchester); Running with Lions (Talawa Theatre, Lyric Hammersmith Theatre). On TV she is known for Vera, EastEnders, Doctors, Holby City and Hollyoaks.

The show is billed as “an epic, life-spanning tale of friendship, music, and the moments that change you”.
