Sonya Cassidy, Llewella Gideon and Javone Prince join a seven-strong company for Natasha Gordon’s award-winning play, directed by Kiln Artistic Director Amit Sharma.
Kiln Theatre has announced the full cast and creative team for its new revival of Natasha Gordon’s award-winning play Nine Night, with the run extended by popular demand to 2 January 2027. Directed by Kiln Artistic Director Amit Sharma, the production plays from 12 November 2026.
The company is led by Sonya Cassidy (Reacher) as Sophie, Estella Daniels (Treasure Island) as Trudy, Llewella Gideon (Mr Loverman) as Auntie Maggie, Ava Hinds-Jones (Generation Z) as Anita, Gary McDonald (Oedipus) as Uncle Vincent, Dani Moseley (Dreaming Whilst Black) as Lorraine, and Javone Prince (One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest, PhoneShop) as Robert.
Nine Night its a drama with a sly comedic element, following three generations of a London family as they gather for a traditional Jamaican wake, blending humour with poignant family dynamics as old secrets rise to the surface across the nine days of mourning. Gordon’s debut play enjoyed a sold-out run at the National Theatre in 2018, winning the Charles Wintour Award for Most Promising Playwright and the Critics’ Circle Award, and earning an Olivier Award nomination for Best Comedy, before transferring to Trafalgar Studios in 2019.
Sharma said he “can’t wait to start rehearsals with this absolute powerhouse of a cast,” praising Gordon’s play for capturing “a family seeking love, dealing with loss, and with family secrets that come to the fore. And it’s funny — boy, is it funny!” Gordon added:
“I’m so thrilled to be reviving Nine Night at Kiln Theatre. With a knockout cast, under Amit’s direction, I’m excited to revisit the play.”
The creative team includes set and costume designer Libby Watson, lighting designer Rory Beaton, sound designer and composer Mwen, movement director Kloé Dean, and voice and dialect coaches Hazel Holder and Claudette Williams.
