Dominic Dromgoole, former Artistic Director of Shakespeare’s Globe, is set to direct the London Philharmonic Orchestra (LPO) next month at Battersea Arts Centre.
Dromgoole will direct Kurt Weill’s opera The Seven Deadly Sins, on Wednesday 13 March at 6:30pm & 8:15pm at Battersea Arts Centre in London.
The satirical work is about sisters Anna 1 and Anna 2, who are sent away by their family to earn money, and venture on an epic seven-year journey, along the way tempted by the seven Biblical deadly sins.
World-leading soprano Danielle de Niese (Aspects of Love) will unusually take on the parts of both Annas for the special concert.
The cast also includes Ross Ramgobin as Brother, Callum Thorpe as Mother, Zwakele Tshabalala as Father, and Amar Muchhala as Brother.
The LPO will be conducted by Edward Gardner, and world-leading accordionist João Barradas will also perform.
The concert is part of LPO’s The Music in You Festival, celebrating the creativity that is in everyone, no matter of ability.
Other concerts in the festival include digital intelligence, dance, a piece for 100 metronomes, mobile phones, jazz and audience participation as well as premieres of new music from LPO’s Composer-in-Residence Tania León, LPO Young Composer Daniel Kidane, Clarisse Assad, Ryan Carter and Luís Tinoco.
Dominic Dromgoole’s next big London theatre project is the European premiere of Paul Grellong’s play Power of Sail at the Menier Chocolate Factory starring Julian Ovenden and Tanya Franks from 20 March 2024.
