A major musicals concert will be held at the Theatre Royal Drury Lane on Sunday 11 August 2013 featuring West End stars performing alongside talented youth arts groups from around the UK.
My Kind of Sunday will be a concert featuring aspiring actors aged between 10 and 19 years old who are part of performing arts group Musical Youth UK.
The gala at the Theatre Royal Drury Lane is planned to become an annual showcase of Musical Youth UK’s young performers, alongside seasoned West End professionals.
Sunday’s event promises to include guest performers Kelly Anne Gower (Blood Brothers, We Will Rock You, Les Miserables), Kit Orton (Spamalot, Hired Man – composer/writer of My Lands Shore), Rhiannon Sarah Porter (Les Miserables, Jesus Christ Superstar), Caroline Sheen (Les Miserables, Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, Mary Poppins), Ben Smith (Jersey Boys, Les Miserables), Jonathan Williams (Les Miserables – member of Tenors of Rock) and Rob Wilshaw (Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat).
Founded last year by Jay Coleman, Musical Youth UK is a not-for-profit organisation that runs a number of hubs in Cardiff, Newport, London, Manchester and Bristol. The hubs each perform two shows a year, and are then invited to participate in an annual gala performance in the West End, joined by some of the West End’s top theatre stars.
Recent Musical Youth UK productions include Les Miserables in Manchester and Bristol, and the world premiere of original Welsh musical My Lands Shore in Newport.
