Royal Shakespeare Company (RSC) announces new appointment to their executive team.
Andrew Leveson has been appointed Executive Director of the RSC, working alongside Co-Artistic Directors Tamara Harvey and Daniel Evans.
Leveson joins the RSC from his role as Director of Finance and Administration at London’s the Bridge Theatre (London Theatre Company), led by Nicholas Hytner, who recently joined the board of the RSC, and Nick Starr.
Leveson takes up his role at the RSC at the end of April this year.
Andrew Leveson said in a statement: “It is such an honour to be appointed as Executive Director of the RSC. I can’t wait to get started.”
Co-Artistic Directors Tamara Harvey and Daniel Evans said: “We’re truly delighted that Andrew will join us as the new Executive Director at the RSC. We are inspired by his ambitions for the company, as well as his deep love of theatre. The vast experience and knowledge he has gained as an integral part of the team at the Bridge Theatre will be vital as we begin this new chapter at the RSC.”

His experience in the commercial and legal sector will prove invaluable in realising the artistic vision of Daniel and Tamara as they embark on their first season. This period heralds an exciting new direction for the RSC, as Andrew joins Daniel and Tamara at the helm of the company – their combined talents promise a vibrant future.”
Andrew Leveson joined London Theatre Company/the Bridge Theatre in 2015 as General Manager before becoming Director of Finance and Administration, working across all the company’s output since the theatre opened in 2017. He has overseen the growth of the organisation from a start-up to its current incarnation with almost 300 employees, and also created the business model and financial plan for Lightroom, which opened last year with the exhibition David Hockney: Bigger and Closer.
Prior to this, he worked as a corporate lawyer at two leading international law firms, and as a freelance theatre director and producer. He has been on the Board of the theatre company ‘1927’ since 2018, and was previously on the Board of the Birmingham Opera Company.
Leveson takes over from Catherine Mallyon, who announced she was leaving in September last year after 11 years in the role.
The RSC has a number of shows now playing or coming soon to the West End, including long-running hit show Matilda The Musical at the Cambridge Theatre; the West End transfer of Hamnet at the Garrick Theatre, which finishes next week; and smash-hit play My Neighbour Totoro at the Barbican Theatre.
The RSC’s current shows include forthcoming Mark Ravenhill drama Ben and Imo. In January, Harvey and Evans announced their first season at the RSC, featuring stars including Luke Thompson, Samantha Spiro, Alfred Enoch, Luke Thallon, and artistic director Daniel Evans.

September 2021: Erica Whyman appointed Acting Artistic Director while Gregory Doran went on leave to support his partner, actor Antony Sher who was terminally ill.
December 2021: RSC announces the death of Antony Sher.
April 2022: Gregory Doran steps down as Artistic Director of the RSC
September 2022: RSC announces the appointment of Daniel Evans and Tamara Harvey as their new co-artistic directors, replacing acting artistic director Erica Whyman. The pair started at the RSC in June 2023.
September 2023: Nicholas Hytner announced as new Board member of the RSC.
February 2024: Andrew Leveson has been appointed Executive Director
