The Donmar Warehouse in London has announced full casting for its new Lucy Kirkwood (Chimerica) play The Human Body.
Already announced are the play’s two stars – acclaimed actor Keeley Hawes (Bodyguard, Line of Duty) as Iris, and alongside Jack Davenport (The Morning Show, Call My Agent) as George.
They will be joined by Pearl Mackie (The Curious Incident Of The Dog In The Night-Time, Doctor Who) as Sylvia Samuels, Siobhán Redmond (Rain Dogs, Vassa, Top Girls) as Helen Mackeson MP, Tom Goodman-Hill (Spamalot, Enron) as Julian Elcock, and Flora Jacoby Richardson (The Famous Five) and Audrey Kattan (Leopoldstadt) sharing the role of Laura Elcock. Additional characters are played by members of the company.
The Human Body will be directed by Michael Longhurst and Ann Yee, and forms part of outgoing Donmar artist director Michael Longhurst’s final season at the iconic London venue.
Joining Longhurst in the creative team are: Design by Fly Davis, Lighting design by Joshua Pharo, Sound design by Ben and Max Ringham, the Fight director is Kate Waters, Casting is by Anna Cooper CDG, Rimu Kwok is the Assistant Set & Costume Designer, Cheng Keng is the Assistant Lighting Designer, José Guillermo Puello is the Assistant Sound Designer.
The play is set in 1948 and centres on GP and Labour party councillor Iris Elcock (Keeley Hawes), working to implement Nye Bevan’s new National Health Service Act. At home she is a mother, and wife to a fellow GP, an ex-Navy man scarred by the war. But a chance meeting with George Blythe (Jack Davenport), a local boy who has made it to Hollywood, turns her quiet, certain world upside down.
The Human Body runs at the Donmar Warehouse from 16 February to 13 April 2024.
Multi-award winning writer Lucy Kirkwood’s current projects include writing the book and lyrics for new musical The Witches, based on Roald Dahl’s classic book, now playing at the National Theatre.
Coming up the in the West End, the Donmar Warehouse’s critically acclaimed production of musical Next To Normal is transferring into the Wyndham’s Theatre this June 2024.
Currently playing at the Donmar Warehouse is David Tennant and Cush Jumbo in Macbeth, from 8 December 2023 to 10 February 2024.
