MTFestUK 2024 to play the Turbine and The Other Palace theatres, with work by Jordan Luke Gage, Declan Bennett, Jerry Zaks & more; Shows include Romy and Michelle The Musical

This year’s showcase for new musical theatre, MTFestUK 2024, has announced it will present eight new musicals over a two week period.

For the first time the festival will run across both The Other Palace theatre in Victoria and Turbine Theatre in Battersea, from 30 January to 11 February 2024.

The eight new productions will be workshopped and presented in ‘sharing’ sessions, allowing audiences to come and support, explore, engage and enjoy new musical theatre in its earliest stages of development.

New musicals include A Jaffa Cake Musical, Both, Tit Swingers and Plastered at The Other Palace, and ROMY AND MICHELE The Musical, Bling, Redcliffe, and The Garden at the Turbine Theatre.

Each piece will be cast and rehearsed, before holding four sharing performances in workshop format, open to audiences.

Highlights include a new musical version of hit 90s movie Romy and Michele’s High School Reunion titled ROMY AND MICHELE The Musical; new musical Both featuring music and lyrics by actor and creator Declan Bennett (Jesus Christ Superstar) and Olivia Broadfield; legendary Broadway director and four-time Tony Award-winner Jerry Zaks (Hello, Dolly! starring Bette Midler, Guys and Dolls) directing new musical Plastered; and new musical Redcliffe written by acclaimed musicals actor Jordan Luke Gage (& Juliet, Bonnie and Clyde).

Paul Taylor Mills, Artistic Director at The Other Palace and The Turbine Theatre said: “We are thrilled MTFestUK continues to support and showcase such a broad range of new musical theatre writing at both The Other Palace and The Turbine Theatre. Several MTFestUK pieces have gone on to fully staged productions, which is a testament to the function of both theatres to provide space and support to allow new work to be explored.”

Shows currently playing at the Turbine Theatre include musical Cockfosters from 10 to 20 January 2024; and shows at The Other Palace include A Very Very Bad Cinderella until 7 January, and Cruel Intentions: The 90s Musical from 11 January to 14 April 2024.
