Jamie Lloyd’s National Theatre revival of Lucy Prebble’s play The Effect is getting a New York transfer, to The Shed.
Written by Lucy Prebble (Succession), The Effect is directed by Olivier Award winner Jamie Lloyd (Cyrano de Bergerac, Sunset Boulevard, A Doll’s House).
The cast is moving from the National to The Shed in New York, including Paapa Essiedu (HBO’s I May Destroy You) and Taylor Russell (Bones and All, Netflix’s Lost in Space) as the couple at the centre of an illicit romance, alongside Michele Austin (This Is Going to Hurt, Cyrano de Bergerac) and Kobna Holdbrook-Smith (Tina: The Tina Turner Musical).
The production ran at the National Theatre from 1 August to 7 October 2023, getting positive reviews from the critics.
Joining Jamie Lloyd in the creative team are set and costume designer Soutra Gilmour, lighting designer Jon Clark, composer Michael ‘Mikey J’ Asante, sound designer George Dennis, movement directors Sarah Golding and Yukiko Masui (SAY), fight director Kate Waters, intimacy co-ordinator Ingrid Mackinnon and casting director Alastair Coomer CDG.
The Shed in New York is currently playing Sondheim’s last ever musical, Here We Are, featuring an all-star cast including West End star Tracie Bennett (until 21 January 2024).
The venue will also house Kenneth Branagh’s new production of King Lear, which recently played at Wyndham’s Theatre in London, and will run at The Shed in Autumn 2024.
Jamie Lloyd’s critically acclaimed production of Andrew Lloyd Webber’s Sunset Boulevard is currently playing at the Savoy Theatre in London until 6 January 2024, starring Nicole Scherzinger.
The National Theatre also announced that The Effect would be joining their National Theatre at Home streaming platform from 9 January 2024.
The Effect will run at The Shed in New York from 3 to 31 March 2024.
